The Shtandart

2 000

Le Shtandart, India ink on nautical chart (New Caledonia), 106 x 69 cm, 2025

A tall ship driven by the wind, where its Russian ensign is not "persona non grata."

Unique work

Description

I drew this Russian frigate, all sails set and flying the Saint Petersburg ensign, on a late 19th-century map of New Caledonia.
The impression of the lithographic stone is still visible, as are the SHOM watermark and the stamp of Général de Sonis, that French three-masted barque dismantled in the 1930s.
Rigging, sails, and carved wood, nothing quite like it for visiting the Greek Islands.
