Studio Notes
Nóstos and Camille

In Greek, Nóstos (Νόστος) carries the idea of an impossible return — that of Ulysses after his long journey, toward a home that no longer exists, or has transformed to the point of becoming foreign. It’s the word that would later give rise to nostalgie.
In my painting Nóstos (oil on canvas, 200 × 200 cm, 2025), this spectral building stands on the threshold — never entirely inside, never entirely outside. It is a haunted place, where absences resonate, fragments of memory linger, and echoes of what once was still whisper. These abandoned architectures are, to me, both inner and outer landscapes — thresholds where presence and disappearance blur.

At the same time, a first limited edition joins the store: a portrait of Camille Claudel printed in a very limited fine art edition on 310gsm watercolor paper. Camille is a figure who has accompanied me for a long time: her tragic destiny—marked by creation and confinement—echoes my own questions about freedom, constraint, and the fragility of lives devoted to art.
