Lever l’Encre

September 10 – October 9, 2015

Galerie L’Entrepôt Monaco,
22, rue de Millo – MC 98000 Monaco

On pages from books found in the streets here or elsewhere, old music scores, or more conventional papers, Saïssi adds another layer, vehemently telling stories that are more or less shady, between reality and imagination, improvisation and deliberate crashes.

In Monaco, at the Galerie de l’Entrepôt, Saïssi, a maverick artist with no school or faction, presents some 50 drawings.

“They are the result of a fierce, powerful mindset, honed by many years of a relentless struggle to exist in the art world. Equally fierce are the drawings he exhibits—a sharp response to the difficulty of being accepted in a predatory universe ruled by trends and market value. On pages from books found in the street, on pages printed with elegant Arabic calligraphy, on music scores, the artist throws his life, his visions, and what the world inspires in him, rendered in charcoal and India ink, producing images charged with biting irony.”
