Notes d’atelier
The Forgotten Door
My materials are finally here, along with the large painting I’m working on, Nostos.
There’s still work to do before I can get back to it, but the studio is beginning to take shape.
To the right of the shop window, behind wooden boards and aluminum panels, a French door had been sealed up.
I unscrew everything, cut through the panels with the grinder, then remove the drywall from the inside.
A beautiful wrought-iron grille appears… and a marble doorstep.

The renovation is moving forward: acetone, filler, sandpaper, paint…
I’m starting to hang some canvases — the transformation is underway.

This new studio is bright, and the new glass door does justice to the original architecture.
It’s not in great condition, but it works, and one day there will always be time to replace it.
With this door added to the shop window, the façade breathes and catches the light much better.

Outside, I remove the tiles and prepare the façade for repainting.
I won’t miss those sad greys, yellows, and greens.
Nor the sloped “ramp” that was supposed to help wheel carts inside.
Little by little, the façade is coming back to life.
